ROSE

I know....this film has taken about 2 years to complete. However, it is done and it looks great. Thanks to Megan, Daniel, and Aaron for being patient while I searched the globe to find the right music for the final cut. Luckily, a visit from Golriz provided me with the perfect song with just the right emotional arch, sensuality and timing to finish ROSE. So without further delay, enjoy....

finally...inspiration

I finally figured out how to take that Google Checkout button off the blog. Who knows how many people tried to buy stuffed otters through that button (1 maybe?...2). I apologize to anyone that attempted to actually purchase something through it.
Now let's talk about stand-up comedy. Now I've drawn inspiration for films and writing from many sources, people I meet and things I see. What has never happened to me before is dreaming up ideas. It's a bizarre feeling, to dream actual ideas and jokes that are, in my opinion, legitimately funny. And so I have written a 15 minute stand-up comedy routine. In the past two weeks, I have dreamt of myself delivering entire stand-up acts involving jokes and comedy that I don't remember seeing anywhere before. Not to say that it hasn't been done, but that I personally have not seen it. I compelled myself to get up in the middle of the night sometimes and to write down the jokes and how I would most effectively deliver them.

And so comes the hard part, trying to convince myself and build up the nerves to try it out in front of an audience. I don't know how long it will take for me to build up this courage, but I do hope that in the near future, I will give it a try. In my opinion, trying to make people laugh and failing is one of the worst feelings someone can have, and so it's definitely a step that is hard for me to take. But I have delivered certain sections of the stand-up to a couple friends and they have had great reactions. So we'll see.

I'm searching through my mind for my next film project. Whether an original short, commercials for www.middlechildsyndrome.org, or a feature. I'm not quite sure, maybe I'll dream up something soon. But it's been a stressful month and I hope to get creatively busy again because its definitely a great source of relief.

At least every week I can watch the 49ers try to meet expectations.

"Home" editing underway!

For all those who have been eagerly awaiting the release of Dogpatch Films first production, "Home," you may not have to wait too much longer. Of course, 'too much longer' can mean many things. Nevertheless, "Home" is clocked in at around 13 min. at the moment and will likely be a solid 13-15 minute short film. The scenes are looking good, and despite some sound trouble and much patience in sorting through the takes, "Home" is shaping up to be a great start in the Dogpatch film library. We, myself and the other Dogpatch folk, are not sure just yet how the film will be released. If all goes well, "Home" and "The Write Stuff" (Shane's documentary), will be submitted to local (and maybe a couple not so local) film festivals. Either way, perhaps there will be a Dogpatch Film Festival to showcase a number of shorts, or maybe we'll get a website up and feature them there. One thing is for certain, the ball is rolling and it is truly exciting. I know Shane is working hard to make his documentary as enjoyable and interesting as possible.
I never know exactly how many people read this blog, but if anyone has read past posts and has ventured to youtube to watch the films that Shane, Alex, my brother, and myself have made, I appreciate it very much. "Spider Attack" has passed the 4,000 views milestone, and the comments on it are both hilarious and gratifying. Please tell everyone you know to check out all the films....just by searching youtube for "liffmann". Its always great to hear reactions/praise, and lots of criticism, from those that stumble upon them. Whenever I make a film, whether its a truly special joint effort such as "Home", or a spark of inspiration compelling me to pick up the camera (or hand it to someone else to film me), it's always so much fun to make anything for others to see. Seeing ideas come to life on any screen, be it the computer, the tv, or a theater screen, having others enjoy the ideas that were conjuring up in my or a friend's head, and allowing others to experience the joy of cinematic storytelling, is a blessing. I realize that this post has become a bit theatrical, but stay with me, as I hope to continue updating and eventually, entertaining the select group of you friends (and maybe strangers) that continue to support me by watching the films from Dogpatch, and myself.
